Hello. My name is Clay, and I have a blog.

In spite of the urging of loved and liked ones, I resisted blogging for a long time in opposition to the assumed prerequisite that I needed to have a specific shtick. Call it pigeon-hole claustrophobia.

At the risk of becoming the object of Despair, Inc.’s brilliantly witty scorn, I’ve (obviously) changed course. While many may yet argue that I only fit the second half of the classic “Jack of all trades…” aphorism, I’ve chosen to embrace my penchant for writing about my many and varied interests and areas of pseudo-expertise. I am, after all, the only mortgage-lending, armchair theologian circus dad who’s hiked a hundred miles around Mont Blanc with an 11-month-old baby on my back. At least that I know of.

So as I aspire—sometimes over a cigar and glass of single-malt with the guys, other times while crocheting a dress and matching hat for my daughter—to be part political commentator, amateur locavore foodie, and wannabe rock star, I invite you to join me on this journey of heterogeneity. A journey that might take us from the heart of urban living on one day, to horse-packing the remote reaches of the roof of Africa while discovering the next perfect addition to our family, and the next, down a remote country road with the top down in a 1915 Model T Ford.

The product of this sometimes eclectic, sometimes unabashedly normal, amalgam of passions is a menagerie of ideas that I like to call a synaptic mosaic. I hope you enjoy the musings of this mere earthen vessel (2 Corinthians 4:7) on a little bit of everything.

About the Image Header

The image in the header of this site comes from a mosaic I photographed in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is within Jerusalem’s walled Old City and venerated by Christians as the site of Golgotha, where Christ was crucified. A more zoomed-out view of the mosaic can be seen here.

In addition to my own writing, I have a distinct passion for helping others find a powerful voice and effective message of their own. If you like what you see here, feel free to contact me about my freelance writing and editing services.
